There’s so much carbon in the atmosphere that planting trees can no longer save us.

According to new studies by the American Geophysical Union, there isn’t enough surface area on earth to plant enough trees to capture the 30 – 40 billion tons of greenhouse gas that humanity emits every year.

If we were to cover the entire continental united states with trees, it would just capture 10% of our yearly emissions. This is far too low to meet the goals of the Paris global agreement.

We need to cut emissions and maintain a carbon budget.
